Meet our Founder,
Monica Nelson, CNP, BA.

Monica grew up in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, being a dual citizen and wanting to explore her canadian roots, she moved to Vancouver for University. She holds an Undergraduate Degree in Communications from Simon Fraser University and worked in Public Relations for four years. After some deep soul searching, she connected with what made her the happiest. Making food for the people she loves, and supporting them with their health goals. She sought to pursue her education as a Holistic Nutritionist and gratudated with honours from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition.  For the last three years, she has dedicated herself to cooking, working at a number of restaurants, retreats, and private homes perfecting her craft. She believes that every person and their nutritional needs are unique and she strives to support each of her clients in their individuality, to help them thrive in their day-to-day lives. 

Meet our Operations Manager,
Gillian Templeton, RHN.

Gillian is Raíz Holistic Nutrition’s Operations Manager and works on client relations as well as supporting the team with all operational related tasks. Gillian believes healing happens when one is connected to their mind, body and spirit. Gillian is a yoga teacher and holistic nutritionist, this giving her the ability to see the connection and helps others attain this healing within. Gillian is a Registered Holistic Nutrition Practitioner, Certified Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Holistic Massage Practitioner. She runs her own business A Root Awakening, helping women balance their hormones by finding the root cause and through gut health. She come to Raiz with managerial, catering, personal chef and holistic nutrition experience.

Magnus Thomas

Magnus is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner who got into the nutrition world through his passion for food. He started out his journey exploring food with an apprenticeship at a 1-star Michelin Restaurant in Germany, where he was born and raised. Since then he worked in various restaurants in Vancouver (Tavola, Oddfish, Novo) and Berlin. He likes to build community through food by using local ingredients and sharing creative ideas. 

His curiosity for food brought him to the world of nutrition at Vancouver’s Institute of Holistic Nutrition which opened the way for him to not just cook for people but also nourish them. 

In his spare time he plays guitar, goes for long runs or into nature with his wife, exposes his ears to a lot of podcasts, meditates, makes vinegars in his basement and once in a while still finds time to read a book.

Ekin Kalayci

Ekin is a passionate and professional chef. She received her culinary certificate from The Culinary Arts Academy, Istanbul and Alma, Italy. She was born and raised in the coastal mediterranean city Izmir, Turkey, therefore, her life energy comes from the ocean. Her career started at a 1 Michelin star restaurant in Italy. After that she worked at various restaurants in different countries. She moved to Canada three and half years ago and calls Canada her home away from home. Most recently, she moved to Vancouverand naturally fell in love with the ocean and nature. Her passion is creating nutritious and delicious food with organic ingredients. She loves to cook Mediterranean style using fresh ingredients as she learned from her grandma. Her dream and passion is helping immigrant women with her profession. She wants to create a strong female community, while helping each other by the healing power of food.

Paige Rodzeba

Paige has long been passionate about cooking ever since she was a little one in the kitchen with her Dad. She eventually turned her love of throwing fancy dinner parties for her friends and families into a full-fledged catering business called The Weekend Table in Calgary. Paige moved to Vancouver to attend Northwest Culinary Academy where she could continue to learn and develop her skills as a chef. After completing her schooling, Paige began taking on personal cheffing clients. Her food is full of flavour, colour and nourishing ingredients! She is a creative chef with a keen eye for detail. When she’s not in the kitchen, she can likely be found hopping around the city trying new restaurants, gallivanting on one of Vancouver’s beautiful beaches or heading up to Whistler during the ski season.

Laetitia Comptour

Laetitia was born and raised in France in a Franco-Vietnamese family. Her passion for cooking began at a young age, reading cookbooks and then reproducing what she learned for family dinners was her favorite activity. She trained at L’Atelier des Chefs in Paris and her other passion, travelling, led her to work in restaurants and cafes in Australia and Canada.She loves taking care of people and believes that food can bring all ages and cultures together. She is convinced that food is the key ingredient to optimal health and that healthy eating does not mean giving up your favorite foods. Your favorite recipes can be easily adapted to provide a healthier alternative. When not cooking, Laetitia enjoys running, reading and traveling to discover other cultures, she also loves wine and studies oenology during her free time.

Jana Bato

Jana is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and an honours graduate of The Institute of Holistic Nutrition. She has 2.5 years of experience in running a Health Foods and Wellness Boutique in Vancouver, BC. She is currently working with clients one-on-one offering nutritional coaching and personalized meal plans. She supports clients in cancer remission, women with PCOS and endometriosis, clients with autoimmune diseases, and those who suffer from the consequences of poor lifestyle choices. Jana uses her experience to bring her client’s body back to health through proper nutrition and natural supplementation. Jana is passionate about holistic healthcare and spreading the knowledge of optimal health. When she’s not working with clients or cooking in Raiz Holistic Nutrition kitchen, she is in a fitness class or enjoying the outdoors.

 

Meet our Holistic Chef,
Samantha DeSousa

Samantha is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and owner of Naked Nutrition. She was born and raised in the lower mainland, naturally she’s a lover of the water and mountains. Food has always been a huge part of her life being Portuguese but nutrition became just as important about 7 years ago when she started to develop a lot of health issues. She was disappointed with just having medications thrown her way and became passionate about getting to the root cause of these issues, thus she began her journey! Guiding others on their own health journey is rewarding and what she loves to do. When she’s not in the kitchen, she loves going on adventures, being in nature and equally loves lazy days at home.
